If you’re doing a solo run in Dead Rails, you need to be more careful about managing your healing resources and taking down enemies for loot. If you’ve already tamed a horse and obtained a few items, here’s a neat trick that can be used to kill the horde of zombies in a town. After this, you can collect valuable items from each building.
Dead Rails Easy Solo Town Looting Tip
When you’ve discovered a town packed with zombies, be ready with your best weapons, ammo, healing items like Bandage and/or Snake Oil, as well as Holy Water. The latter is obtained from a Church within a town, so look for a big white building in a Town with more than 7 buildings. You can clear it with your guns, and when you’ve collected Holy Water, your next Town raid is going to be very easy.
With all the necessities readied, ride your horse into the location and gain the attention of your enemies without taking too much damage.
Keep going ahead and you will see that the horde of zombies will follow you, almost in a straight line. Go further, turn, and throw the Holy Water bottle on the ground. It will reveal green flames and lighting bolts that kill/damage zombies that walk through it. This makes things easier because you can whip out your gun and take down the rest of the enemies who survived the Holy Water.
If you have chosen the Arsonist class, you can also use a Molotov, which is a throwable weapon that sets the ground on fire. Similar to the Holy Water, it will deal damage to any enemy that steps into the fire.
Once the majority of enemies are taken down, go back into the main town area and kill the rest. After clearing the mob, you can use their bodies as fuel (if needed) or you can focus on looting every building before it’s nighttime. Doing this can earn you Treasury Bonds, Ammo, Bandages and more valuable stuff.
