The Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4 is a timed endgame dungeon where you can farm enemies for rewards. It was introduced in Season 4 and is a real test of your build. Your goal is to defeat the required number of enemies and defeat the boss before time runs out (15 minutes max). If a certain level is too easy for you, don’t worry, higher and more challenging levels get unlocked. Players receive Upgrade Materials for Masterworking at the Blacksmith, which is an unmissable part of making your endgame build stronger. So, here’s where to find The Pit, how to unlock it and what you need to do there.
How to Unlock The Pit?
The Pit requires a bit of progress before you can jump in:
- Reach Max Level 60: This is the key requirement to be eligible to unlock the Pit. Previously, this used to be World Tier 4. When you reach Level 60, you’ll receive a priority quest called ‘The Pit of the Artificer’ which will take you to the Pit. Complete it and then come back to Cerrigar.
- Find the Obelisk in Cerrigar: Head to the western part of the town of Cerrigar and locate the strange obelisk. Interact with it and that’s how you can start farming this dungeon.
- Use the obelisk as a portal to access the Pit whenever you’re ready to test your skills against its challenges!

You unlock them simply by beating the current tier within the time limit. The exact number of tiers unlocked depends on how quickly you clear the zone:
- Finishing within 15 minutes unlocks 1 tier.
- Finishing with 4-6 minutes remaining unlocks 2 tiers.
- Finishing with 6+ minutes remaining unlocks 3 tiers.
