Once Human is a survival game where, like real life, water is of utmost importance in your journey. There’s clean water and there’s dirty water, both of which can be useful for your character. Here’s how to get polluted water in Once Human and convert it to clean drinkable water (boiled and pure) for your hydration.
How to Get Polluted Water in Once Human
Head to Contaminated Water Sources and collect Polluted water using a Water pump. If you don’t have one built already, head to the build menu and go to the Production Processing tab to set it up.
The materials you need to build a big Water Pump are 25x Steel Ingots, 20x Carbon Fiber Fabric, 20x Refined Parts, 20x Standard Parts and 20x Electronic Parts.
Now, all you have to do is put a water pump is in a Contaminated Zone which can be confirmed as polluted when your Cradle starts beeping and shows a number on the backpack. So, head to rivers, lakes and ponds and check if they are appropriate for you to collect it. When you collect Polluted Water, you will be on your way to Passive Acid production.
In these Contaminated zones, you will also be able to collect Dirty Water which is used for the production of cleaner Boiled Water and Pure Water.

How to Get Boiled Water (Safe to Drink)
- Collect 3x Dirty Water and 3x Logs by felling trees and cook it at the Stove.
- If you have an Electric Stove, you can create Boiled Water with just 3x Dirty Water.
How to Get Pure Water (Safe to Drink)
Pure Water is distilled water which is a type of food that increases Hydration by +20. It can be crafted by using the Osmosis Water Purifier.
You can get the Osmosis Water Purifier working by putting your Rainwater Collection System at a higher ground level and connect them using wires/pipes. When water flows downwards into the Osmosis Water Purifier, and from there goes into a Water tank, you will be able to get purified water in your base easily.
The blueprint to unlock it will be in the Memetics > Logistics where you must look for Water Purification. To craft the Osmosis Water Purifier, you need 50x Logs, 15x Adhesives, 20x Charcoal and 15x Bronze Ingots.
Both Boiled and Pure water are safe to consume in the game. While rainwater can be boiled to make it drinkable, if it doesn’t rain a lot, you can follow the steps mentioned above to manually collect dirty water to get clean drinking water in Once Human easily.
