Palworld has taken the world by storm as soon as it came out and due to high player count, there are some frustrating issues Steam and Game Pass players are facing, especially those related to servers and black screen on launch making the game unplayable. If that’s you, don’t worry – here are some troubleshooting tips that may help you out.
How do I fix my Palworld black screen?
The developers have acknowledged the issue and have fixed the problem from their end.
Here’s their tweet posted on Jan 19, 2024:
“We have fixed the problem where the game was dark and unplayable. It was occurring for some players depending on the player’s network environment. If you encounter this problem, please apply the hotfix and wait at least 10 seconds after starting the game.”
For those who are still seeing the Palworld black screen issue, here’s what you can do from your end:
Check your system requirements
In case your PC is not compatible with the minimum specs required for Palworld, the game may crash frequently or not load at launch. Here are the minimum and recommended system requirements that you can verify:
- MINIMUM:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 or later (64-Bit)
- Processor: i5-3570K 3.4 GHz 4 Core
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 (2GB)
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 40 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Internet connection required for multiplayer. SSD required.
- RECOMMENDED:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 or later (64-Bit)
- Processor: i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8 Core
- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics: GeForce RTX 2070
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 40 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Internet connection required for multiplayer. SSD required.
Wait it out
If you see a black screen error when you load up Palworld, wait for a bit and see if the game gets started on its own. At the time of writing this article, the game is in early access so errors may pop up in between.
For some, restarting the PC has also worked. Due to the large number of concurrent players, the servers became unstable and this could also cause black screen issues as well as problems with multiplayer mode.

Run Palworld as Admin
Sometimes there could be permission-related problems that can interrupt a game from loading up and starting properly. Right-click the game’s application on your Desktop, select the option to Run as Administrator, and check if you are able to launch it now.
A player mentioned on Discord that they fixed the black screen by going to the file location from Steam > right-clicking on the launcher > Properties > and then under Compatibility, they checked the option to “Disable fullscreen optimizations” and “Run as administrator” and it worked for them. While this is not a guaranteed fix, you can give it a shot to see if it works for you.
Update Graphics Driver
Check if there are any new updates available for your graphics driver by heading to the official site of the manufacturer. Some also suggest updating Windows.
If nothing works after all of these steps, contact Steam support to get help running Palworld smoothly.
