Space fights in Starfield happen quite often and is arguably an experience you do not want to miss. Escaping these combats is a skill in itself, and proves useful if players can master it. These sudden encounters in the game can feel like road blockers and can take a heavy toll on your ship, especially if the opposing enemy is superior, or you are outnumbered. In such a case, you need to escape the fight as soon as possible. Failure to do so will result in you losing your progress and starting over again from the previous checkpoint.
How to Escape Space Combat in Starfield
You will not be able to travel to another planet in the same system to escape the combat, there is only one way to get out of this situation and that is Grav Jumping.
- Firstly, allocate power to your Grav Drive. On your screen, in the bottom left corner, you will see the six system indicators. Choose power from the weapons system and assign as many as you can to the GRV bar, on the right.
- To start up your grav jump, press Tab, and from the menu, open Starmap and select a different star system. At this point, you don’t need to worry about the enemy ship attacking you, as your game will be temporarily paused.
- If you have invested enough power into your ship’s grav drive, the jump will start in a few moments.
- However, if it isn’t sufficient, a warning will flash “grav jump pending” and this might result in the enemy ship destroying your grav drive by attacking it, and you won’t be able to do the jump.
- The more power you use, the faster you will be able to jump.
- It is necessary to keep in mind that when you realize you are under attack, do not get overwhelmed and use your boost to rush in the opposite direction, as it will not work.
