After exploring the town of Reithwin and coming across the Sharran Sanctuary beneath it, you will stumble upon three statues that provide you with unique Shar Blessings. However, interacting with the statues and passing some saving throws will immediately reveal a hidden chamber containing a Shar Altar with a ritual dagger placed on it.
While you can continue with the ritual to reveal some of its rewards like Scrolls and Potions and also to gain Shadowheart’s approval, many might wonder if they should take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3 which is lying on the Altar.
Since each choice in the Dungeons and Dragons universe can be critical and have consequences, stealing the dagger may not fit right. And considering you don’t want to mess with the literal Goddess of Darkness and Loss, it might be better to think twice before you take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3. So if you are wondering whether or not you should take it, then here is everything you need to know.
Should You Steal the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3?
According to us, we would suggest you not take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3. Since the dagger only deals an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage and isn’t quite that optimal for combat, it can be left at the Shar Altar. You will find quite useful weapons than the dagger as you explore around in the game.
However, the main reason would be the fact that stealing the Ritual Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3 will spawn three sentinel enemies and will also lead to Shadowheart’s disapproval. All three of the enemies which include the Charismatic Sentinel, Wise Sentinel, and an Intelligent Sentinel will be at level 7 and share 120 HP each. Dealing with them will be quite difficult since you will be trapped inside the sanctuary.
You will find them even harder if you haven’t grinded enough levels in Act One at which stage you might need to consider loading up a previous save. However, you can always avoid all of that if you leave the dagger on the Shar Altar itself. Not to mention, known of the sentinels have any loot on them that you will be able to gather.
That said, if you are ready to take on the sentinels and want to have the Ritual Dagger of Shar in your possession, then you might want to know that all three of them are resistant to necrotic damage and are more vulnerable to radiant ones. Also because they have Living Shadow as one of the passive features, it gives them damage resistance to all types except Force, Psychic, or Radiant while obscured.
