Starfield: How To Change Companions

Published Date :

If you want to change companions in Starfield, you might either be bored of them or their skills. Be it exploring solo or with someone, companions play a huge role in Bethesda’s most recent space RPG. You can use their skills for your crew to progress through your gameplay as you ask them to follow around. But as you may want to use specific companions for some main quests or late-game, this game luckily allows you to change them. But is it possible to have more than one companion at the same time? So, check out our guide that explains how to dismiss your current companion.

How to Change Companions in Starfield

You can change companions in Starfield by interacting with one of the companion characters and asking them to follow you. This will dismiss your current companion as they will automatically stop following you. Alternatively, you can also ask the companions to leave your crew by choosing a specific dialogue. For that, you must complete the Old Neighbourhood main quest for unlocking the dialogue option.

Once you complete this quest, you can interact and speak with your companion. Choose the following dialogue option to leave them:

  • I think it’s time we went our separate ways.

Note that you can only choose one companion. And we recommend choosing them depending on the skills they offer. For example, Vasco offers Aneutronic Fusion, Shield Systems, and EM Weapon Systems skills. While you cannot romance this modified robotic companion, its design allows you to traverse barren terrains and carry huge payloads.

Can you have More than One Companion?

No, you cannot have more than one Starfield companion at the same time. When you ask another companion character to join your crew, it dismisses your current companion. They will be transferred to their original outpost or the location where you met them first. If you change your mind, head to their locations and ask them to follow you, again.

That’s all about how to change companions in Starfield. If you found this guide helpful, check out our guides on whether should you join UC Vanguard, where to sell items, and more Starfield Guides right here on Gamer Tweak.
