Energy Cells work as the source of power for all the Zonai Devices you have. The Energy Cell attached to Link’s waist has a total of 8 battery slots. At first, one of those eight slots is already occupied. However, the Energy Cell can be upgraded by filling the remaining 7 slots. Once you have upgraded the power cells, the capacity or life of the devices will be increased. So, to upgrade or to get more Energy Cells in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need an Energy Well. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps for obtaining an Energy Well. Take a look below.
How to Upgrade Energy Cells in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
An Energy Well is unlocked by spending 100 Crystalized Charge at a Crystal Refinery. After acquiring an Energy Well, your Energy Cell will be upgraded by +1 slot in Tears of the Kingdom. That means, you will have to produce an Energy Well each time you want to get more Energy Cells.
While there are several Crystal Refineries in the game, the easiest one to locate is the one near Lookout Landing. You can find it just outside the town on a broken platform. The coordinates for this Crystal Refinery are (-0214, 0194, 0031). It will be marked with a battery icon on your Purah Pad. Enter the Refinery & interact with the Steward Construct to get an Energy Well. Doing so will upgrade your Energy Cell in Tears of the Kingdom.
Now that you have an increased Energy Cell, you can charge it by using a Zonai Charge. For your reference, we have made a guide on the Zonai Charge and its Uses.
How to Get Zonaite & Crystalized Charge in Zelda TOTK
Zonaites can be found easily if you look for them in the Depths, an underground world. You can enter the Depths by diving into the red holes known as Chasms on the map. Once you reach there, you would be able to find Zonaite Ores easily by exploring. Upon finding a Zonaite Ore, hit it with any stony weapon to obtain 3x Zonaite.
To convert Zonaite into Crystalized Charge, you must go to a Forge Construct. Therein, get close to the shelves that hold pyramidical Crystalized Charges. From there, you can spend 3 Zonaite to get 1 Crystalized Charge.
Now, there is one on the Great Sky Island in the Mining Cave area (0390, -1627, 1412). Unfortunately, this Forge Construct only holds 10 Crystalized Charges at once. So you will have to wait until it is stocked again. Alternatively, you can also head to the Forge Construct near the Great Abandoned Mine area in the Depths.
To reach there quickly, head to the Great Plateau North Chasm (-0661, -1520, 0667) in the Surface overworld. Dive into the Chasm to reach the Depths and keep moving in the southern direction until you reach the coordinates: (-0858, -1938, -0522). You need to defeat Yiga Clan Leader, Master Khoga, to get access to the Mine. Thankfully, you will be rewarded with 100 Crystalized Charge after defeating this enemy.
In this, you can not only trade Zonaite for Crystalized Charge but can also obtain Large Crystalized Charges in exchange for Large Zonaite. Large Crystallized Charges are worth 20 normal Crystalized Crystalized Charges.
That’s all you can do to upgrade or get more Energy Cells in Tears of the Kingdom. Also, now that you are here, why don’t you check out our other Zelda TOTK Guide on Zonai Charges?
