If you are in the mid of dogfight in space while playing Star Wars Squadrons, the only thing you need to do to survive is to keep all of your wits about you. The best thing to focus on is the health of your shields in the game.
For the uninitiated, Shields in Star Wars Squadrons are the first line of defence on any starfighter as they will deflect laser shots from enemy ships or frigates. Notably, you can only take so much damage before your shields deplete, revealing your hull to direct damage.

However, unlike your hull which can only be repaired manually, Sheilds will regenerate when you are not taking fire, allowing you to have some form of defense, even if you sustain a lot of damage during a dogfight.
How to Focus Shields in Star Wars Squadrons
Focusing shields in Star Wars Squadron lets you prioritize your shields around the front or back of your ship to save you from incoming fire. In order to activate this defence mechanic, you need to press and hold Square (PS4) or (Xbox One), then use up or down on the D-pad/analog to select the area that you want to focus on.
Once you have done this correctly, release Square (PS4) or X (Xbox One) to confirm the focus.
