Liam is a tiefling prisoner from Aradin’s crew. He is being tortured by goblins in the Shattered Sanctum. The Spike, has him helplessly strapped to an interrogation table, inflicting pain to extract information Liam claims he does not have. With some quick thinking and silver-tongued words, Liam can be freed from his torture and possibly become an ally. Here are all the methods to save Liam in Baldur’s Gate (BG3).
How to Save Liam in BG3
You have several options to consider when trying to free Liam from his goblin captors:
- Persuade Spike to leave the room (Recommended). You can make a successful Wisdom (Persuasion) check with DC 15. Appeal to Spike’s greed or honor to convince him to give you privacy.
- Use Illithid powers (Best solution). Use an Intelligence (Arcana) check with DC 10 to use your Illithid tadpole powers to force Spike to leave through intimidation or trickery.
- Unlock Liam’s shackles stealthily. Try to use Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check with DC 15. This will allow you to free Liam quietly without notice.
- Kill Spike and the other goblins. This will undoubtedly free Liam but be prepared for a challenging fight that will alert the rest of the goblin camp—only recommended once you’ve completed other important objectives.
The easiest solution is to use your Illithid abilities, as the DC 10 makes success very likely. We also recommend using the Wisdom (Persuasion) or Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) options if you prefer not to use these powers.
Questioning Liam About Halsin and Nightsong
After freeing Liam from his torture, you can talk to him about Halsin and the location of the Nightsong, although he has limited information. Be sure to exhaust all Liam’s dialog options – you can pass on any useful information to Minthara if you want to reveal the Druid’s Grove. Liam will reveal that Halsin was captured after transforming into a bear. Once questioned, he will escape through the southeast path.
