Overwatch 2 Recording Voice Chat (Explained)

Published Date :

With the release of Overwatch 2, all the services as well as servers will end for its predecessor. That being said, the sequel introduces tons of new features and most importantly, the Defense Matrix system. Through this system, your voice chat will be recorded to secure players from disruptive and toxic behavior. But several players are confused about how this feature will work out. So, check out our guide on why is Overwatch 2 recording voice chat to find out.

Why is Overwatch 2 Recording Voice Chat (Explained)

As Overwatch 2 launches, Blizzard will feature speech-to-text transcriptions. That means Blizzard can collect a temporary voice chat to analyze any disruptive or toxic behavior. This transcription will not be stored in the database for a long time. While the audio file will be deleted after it is transcribed, the transcription text file will be deleted in 30 days. So, make sure to report the players right away as you face disruptive behavior. The Blizard’s chat review team will analyze the disruptive behavior by using the tools. But make sure to report the players right away. You can check out our guide on how to report cheaters and hackers for more insight.

In my opinion, this will save players from a great deal of toxic behavior like tilting or being called out by other players. Aside from the record voice chat in Overwatch 2, Blizzard has also implemented an SMS Protect system. As players give their phone numbers to verify the Battle.net account, it makes it a bit of a hassle for the banned players to return the game. This is because players cannot use the same phone numbers for creating or using multiple accounts.

But several players in the community are concerned that this system can potentially be used to wrongfully ban players. And as it has happened with other games like Valorant. So, the concern is seemingly valid. While we will have to wait to see until that happens, it can also secure players from lots of combat cheaters and hackers.
