If you want to play custom Workshop maps in CS2, you would love some training time to enhance your shooting skills in this online FPS game. Aside from boosting your gaming skills, these maps also allow you to play private maps with your friends. But with the launch of the sequel, many players wonder if they can load custom workshop maps. Does Valve allow players to access Steam Workshop filled with custom maps like CSGO? Check out our guide on how to load and play Workshop maps in Counter-Strike 2 to find out.
How to Play Custom Workshop Maps in CS2
Unfortunately, there is no section for playing Workshop maps in CS2 in-game similar to the Counter Strike Global Offensive currently. But as there is a workaround to load up any workshop maps into Counter-Strike 2, you are not completely out of luck. You need to manually download the map files which are in a VPK file extension format to load them into game.
Follow the below steps:
- Head to the moddb website to find a huge collection of custom maps for the game. If you want an Aim training map in CS2, you can download the Aim Botz map from their official website (link over here).
- Once the map is downloaded, copy the required VPK file.
- Paste the file into the respective map folder. Its default path is as follows:
- Local Disk:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\maps
- Then, launch CS2 and press the Tilde button (~) to open your console command section.
- Type the following command:
- map %map_name%
- Instead of the “map_name” type the name of the map you pasted into the Maps folder.
- Finally, press the Enter button to load the workshop map.
Can You Get Banned for Using Custom Maps?
No, you won’t get a VAC ban for using any custom maps in Counter-Strike 2. However, it can prevent you from using or entering any official servers. Alongside the launch options, you need to add the “-insecure” parameter to access these maps.
Will CSGO Maps Work in Counter Strike 2?
The answer to that question is a solid no. The reason why CSGO workshop maps can neither be ported nor loaded into CS2 is due to both games work on different engines. However, you can follow our above steps to load a Workshop map into the game.
Hopefully, Valve will add Workshop Maps accessible from the Steam Community in the future. When that happens, we will make sure to update this guide.
