BG3 Momentum Not Working On Haste Helm Fix (Smooth Start)

Not getting the momentum buff with the Haste Helm in Baldur's Gate 3? Here is how you can solve it.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the momentum buff is not working for many players and they need a fix. You get it when you equip the Haste Helm, which gives you the Smooth Start effect. It is a handy feature in fights because it lets you move more. The more you can move the better you can place your companions on the battlefield. These can work for both close combat or setting up a ranged attack. Don’t worry about the bug though, you can easily fix it with this quick workaround.

In order to fix this bug you have to unequip and requip the helmet. There is no known reason for why it happens and no apparent official fix either. Luckily the above workaround solves it in no time. It should be fixed for good when the developers release an updating patching it.

  1. Press I to access your Inventory. PS5 players on the controller can press R2 and move up to the Character sheet to open your inventory. Check out our detailed guide on how to use inventory & bags.
  2. Go to the character who is using the Helmet.
  3. Drag and drop the helmet out of your head slot into the inventory to unequip it.
  4. Next, drag it back to the head slot to equip it.
  5. Now, move and the Smooth Start effect will start working again.

What is Smooth Start?

Smooth Start is the effect you get with Haste Helm, it gives you Momentum for the next 3 turns at the start of combat. Momentum is useful to increase your movement by 1.5m.
