Should I Kill Dream Guardian In Baldur’s Gate 3? (BG3)

Here's what can happen if you choose to Kill or Spare the Dream Guardian in Baldur's Gate 3.

Sparing or Killing your Guardian is one of the toughest calls to make in Baldur’s Gate 3. After all, it was their voice that has been guiding you all around. But as you know, the order from Queen Vlaakith of Githyanki is straight. Moreover, you have a Githyanki warrior (Lae’zel) in your group. The pressure is on and you have to make a decision here. To help you through this, we are here with our BG3 Dream Guardian (or Visitor) Choice Guide. It features the outcomes of all the decisions you can make here.

Description: There are major spoilers related to the BG3 Storyline here.

Should you Kill or Spare the Dream Visitor in BG3?

To help you make a better call, here are the consequences for all the Guardian decisions you can make in Baldur’s Gate 3:

What Happens if You Kill the Guardian

While in the Planecaster, you can interact with the Dream Visitor and kill her during the conversation. If you kill her, then they will heal themself and respawn again. Your Guardian allowed you to stab them just to test your trust in her. And obviously, the trust will be broken after this event. They will surely be disappointed but won’t leave your side throughout the game. However, the scars of this event will still remain. Later, when you leave the Astral Prism, Vlaakith will know that the Guardian is still alive and will unleash an attack on you for it.

What Happens if You Spare the Guardian

Aside from the above decision, you can also choose to spare your Guardian’s life in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Guardian will be satisfied and their trust in you will be strengthened. After making this choice, you will be attacked by the Githyankis after leaving the Astral Prism.

This brings us to the question – should you kill or side with the Dream Guardian in BG3? If you ask me, then you should spare their life. I have a couple of reasons for that. Firstly, it’s for sure that the Guardian or Visitor is not killable. And you will be attacked by Queen Vlaakith’s forces regardless of the decision you make here. So killing the Guardian does not make any sense here. The wisest decision would be to spare their life. The Guardian means no harm to you, nor in the present, neither in the future. Also, being on good terms with the Dream Guardian is necessary for unlocking a different kind of Ending for Baldur’s Gate 3.

There are plenty of such important decisions to make in this game. That’s why, I suggest you take a look at our BG3 Choices & Consequences Guide for help. We have mentioned outcomes for all the choices you can make on different occasions.
