You can heal yourself simply by using the health kit. You can either find them around you or you can craft them. As soon as you see one, equip it by pressing the d-pad and start healing by holding R2. There will be an animation for healing, so it’s best to do it when there is no danger lurking around. If you get the First-Aid Training skill, you can lower this duration, but whatever the time taken for healing, choose a safe space to do it.
To craft a health kit, or a ‘Medkit’, you will need one rag and one alcohol bottle. Interestingly, these specific ingredients are the same as Molotovs. So you can decide what to craft based on your necessity at that time. If you have these ingredients, just select the health kit and hold X to craft it. Note that these health kits will restore your health by a lot.
Apart from these, there is one more way to heal in The Last of Us 2. That is by eating some food you find while exploring. Check vending machines in the areas you visit, look for any restaurants and basically search everywhere for some food. When you pick up the food, it will replenish your health by some amount.
