Roadhog is a tank that you should definitely learn to play in Overwatch 2. This is mainly because of how different he is from the other tanks in the game. So if you accidentally select him, you’ll find he isn’t directly of any use to your team in terms of defense. But once you find out how his abilities work you will start to his actual use and capabilities. So in this guide let us quickly check some tips that can help you play Roadhog better in Overwatch 2.
How to Play Roadhog in Overwatch 2
You should play Roadhog as an aggressive tank in OW2. He is less of a tank in the sense of being able to protect the entire team but is a more self-sufficient hero. Unlike most tanks, his abilities don’t support the team to defend them.
The best situation for using him is when you already have a tank in your team and need another backup tank that is strong enough to do a lot of damage. Or if you want to play as someone who doesn’t want or is not getting the help of the support in the team. Here are some tips that will help you out.
- Master your Chain Hook: Chain Hook is the most important ability of Roadhog that is a deciding factor for getting kills. Roadhog can basically use this ability to grab any opponent and pull them toward him. It has a maximum range of 20 meters. As soon as your chain is released you should shoot at their chest/ body. You can use both either primary or secondary fires of Scrap Gun to help secure the kill. The reason body shot is to be used here is that your Scrap Gun is a shotgun. So you have to get as many bullets to hit them as possible.
- Since hooking your opponent stuns them if you have a brief moment do decide if you want to melee attack or fire at them. If you time your attacks correctly you can land both hits and get a guaranteed kill. The best way you will be able to master your Chain Hook will be to use it in Practice Range or against AI.
- Don’t use Chain Hook only for kills: You can also use it for interrupting your enemies. This is basically useful to interrupt and cancel channeling abilities. For example, you can hook and pull D.Va’s ultimate to save your team from harm.
- Take note of your surroundings: This tip is useful in two ways. One is for the chain hook. When you use that ability, Roadhog cannot move. Thus it makes you an easy target for your opponents. Another thing is, Take a Breather has a cooldown of 8 seconds. So knowing where the health packs are on a map can help save you.
- Take a Breather: His ability describes this tip almost perfectly. Unlike some other tanks, Roadhog doesn’t get Shields or Temporary shields. And his HP is 700 which is quite normal for a tank. But thanks to his ability Take a Breather, Roadhog can restore 350 HP over a period of time. Since it has a cooldown of 8 seconds, it is safe to say you can use it sparingly when used properly. So whenever you feel the need to heal yourself look for a safe spot and use this ability for it.
