Yes, giving Gale the artifacts in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best option if you want him as your companion. However, if you don’t give the artifacts to Gale, he will make a deal with the Devil. And he will dislike you for not giving up the uncommon magical items when he asked for them. On the contrary, you can gain and increase his approval by giving Gale the items and artifacts. You must give him three magical items during Act 1 to progress with his quest line.
If you kill him, he will appear as a spectral magical projection asking you to revive him. He will state that you must revive him within two days.
