There is quite a lot that you can do when playing this game, but in the 1.6 update, you can now get Books of Power in Stardew Valley. They also go by as Skill Books, and as the name might suggest reading them unlocks new skills i.e. special powers for you. But there isn’t a single method to obtain them all, some you can buy from booksellers, others you can find inside mystery boxes or treasure chests, while the rest can be unlocked as rewards. So below is the list of each book, what it does, and how to unlock it in SDV.
How to Obtain All Books of Power in Stardew Valley
There are a total of 26 of them that you can unlock:
- Animal Catalogue
- How to Get: Purchase it from Marnie for 5000 Gold.
- Use: It lets you use Marnie’s shop even when she isn’t present.
- Bait And Bobber
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 5000 Gold. You can also find it in Fishing Treasure Chests, Golden Mystery Boxes, or Artifact Spots.
- Use: It gives you Fishing experience.
- Book of Mysteries
- How to Get: Open Golden Mystery Boxes for it.
- Use: Improves your chances of finding Mystery Boxes by a bit.
- Book Of Stars
- How to Get: Complete the fourth quest of Raccoons to get it from them or you can buy it for 15,000 Gold from the Bookseller.
- Use: Gives you experience in all Skills.
- Combat Quarterly
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 5000 Gold. You can also find it in Fishing Treasure Chests or Golden Mystery Boxes.
- Use: It gives you Combat experience.
- Dwarvish Safety Manual
- How to Get: Dwarf will sell it to you for 4000 Gold.
- Use: Take 25% less damage from bombs.
- Friendship 101
- How to Get: You can get it as a prize from Prize Machine in Lewis House, or buy it from the Bookseller for 20,000 Gold.
- Use: It speeds up the process of making you friends with other people.
- Horse: The Book
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 25,000 Gold.
- Use: Riding horses gives you a bit more speed.
- Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Thick
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 20,000 Gold, or you can find it in Artifact Spots.
- Use: Read it to get +1 Defense.
- Jewels Of The Sea
- How to Get: Get it as a treasure reward for fishing.
- Use: You have a better chance to get Roe from Fishing Treasure Chests.
- Mapping Cave Systems
- How to Get: Go to the Adventure’s Guild and you can find it in the back of a box.
- Use: You get a 50% discount when using Marlon’s item retrieval service.
- Mining Monthly
- How to Get: Open Golden Mystery Boxes to have a chance to find it or you can buy it from the Bookseller for 8000 Gold.
- Use: Read it to get Mining experience.
- Monster Compendium
- How to Get: You get it as a drop from monsters.
- Use: There is a small chance that monsters will drop 2x loot upon dying.
- Ol’ Slitherlegs
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 25,000 Gold.
- Use: Increases your running speed in crops and grass.
- Price Catalogue
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 3000 Gold.
- Use: It lets you check the price of items before you can buy them.
- Queen Of Sauce Cookbook
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 10,000 Gold.
- Use: You can learn any Queen Of Sauce recipes that you previously didn’t know.
- Stardew Valley Almanac
- How to Get: You can get it as a prize from Prize Machine in Lewis House, or buy it from the Bookseller for 10,000 Gold.
- Use: Read it to get Farming experience.
- The Alleyway Buffet
- How to Get: Check the gold trash can between JojaMart and Blacksmith.
- Use: When you search trash you have a better chance to find items in it.
- The Art O’ Crabbing
- How to Get: Catch 8 squids during the SquidFest to get it as a reward.
- Use: You now have a 25% chance that Crab pots yield 2x their catch.
- The Diamond Hunter
- How to Get: Go to the Volcano Dungeon and buy it from the Dwarf for 10 Diamonds.
- Use: When you mine stones using hands they have a chance to drop diamonds.
- Treasure Appraisal Guide
- How to Get: You can find it from Artifact Troves or from Mystery Boxes.
- Use: After reading this book you can sell Artifacts at a higher price.
- Raccoon Journal
- How to Get: Complete the second quest of Raccoons to get it from them.
- Use: You have an improved chance of finding Mixed seeds from weed.
- Way Of The Wind Part. 1
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 15,000 Gold.
- Use: Increases your running speed.
- Way Of The Wind Part. 2
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 35,000 Gold. You also need to have purchased the first books for it to unlock.
- Use: Increases your running speed.
- Woodcutter’s Weekly
- How to Get: Bookseller sells it to you for 8000 Gold. Alternatively, you can also get it as a random drop by chopping trees.
- Use: Read it to get Foraging experience.
- Woody’s Secret
- How to Get: You get it as a random drop by cutting trees.
- Use: You have a 5% chance to get 2x wood when cutting down trees.
