What is the Shortest Fortnite Season?

The shortest Fortnite season was Chapter 4: Season OG, which lasted only 29 days. Still, to understand the shortest Fortnite season, we must consider whether we’re looking at Chapter 1, Season 1 (also known as “Season X”) or the recent Fortnite OG as a full season. Here’s a breakdown of the shortest seasons:

  • Shortest by traditional measurement: Chapter 1, Season 1 lasted 48 days from October 25th, 2017 to December 13th, 2017.
  • Shortest overall (including Fortnite OG): Fortnite OG was a brief epilogue to Chapter 4, lasting only 29 days from November 3rd, 2023, to December 2nd, 2023.

Technically, Fortnite OG takes the crown for the shortest season. However, many players don’t consider it a full season due to its shorter duration and limited content compared to other seasons. Also, Pre-Season: Season 0 lasted 29 days, but this is not considered a traditional ‘season’ in Fortnite.

Here are some other noteworthy short seasons:

  • Chapter 1: Season 3 lasted 67 days.
  • Chapter 1: Season 2 lasted 69 days.
  • Chapter 1: Season 6 lasted 69 days.
  • Chapter 1: Season 8 lasted 69 days.
  • Chapter 4: Season 4 lasted 69 days.
  • Chapter 2: Season 3 lasted 70 days (ending August 26th, 2020).

So, the “shortest season” title depends on your criteria. But based on both technical length and common perception, Chapter 1, Season 1 holds the title for the longest-standing shortest season, while Fortnite OG takes the overall win for the shortest duration.

What is the Longest Fortnite Season?

The longest Fortnite season was Chapter 2: Season 1, which lasted 127 days. The title of “Longest Fortnite Season” belongs to Chapter 2: Season 1, which stretched on for a whopping 128 days from Tuesday, 15 October 2019, to not including Thursday, 20 February 2020. That’s nearly 4 months, 5 days excluding the end date—or 35.07% of a common year.

This season was quite an anomaly, with most Fortnite seasons averaging around 80 days and rarely exceeding 120 days. Some reasons for its extended duration include adding new features like New Island, Synced Emotes, XP Coins, Free Pass Missions, Swimming, boats, New art styles, and models. We also got new locations like Apollo Island, Craggy Cliffs, Dirty Docks, Frenzy Farm, Holly Hedges, Lazy Lake, Misty Meadows, Steamy Stacks, Slurpy Swamp, Sweaty Sands, and Weeping Woods.

There will be downtime in between as the game updates to all the brand-new content it will have for the next season. During the downtime, the servers will be unstable or not respond for up to 4 hours. As soon as it’s over, Fortnite will be playable.
