Here are the simple steps to invite and add friends in AoE 4 and play the multiplayer Co-op or PVP mode.

1. Launch Age of Empires 4.
2. Go to the main menu and click on the PLAY tab.
3. Click on the + icon at the bottom-left section of the screen.
4. Check the My Group tab.
5. Select an + Empty slot.
   
6. Click on Invite to Group.
   
   
7. You will see your Friends list here including friend requests, requests sent, online and offline friends etc.
   
8. To invite friends, click on the Add button.
9. In the Search Players window, type your friend’s profile name (the one they are using in AoE IV)
10. This will make the game search for the player and their profile will show up.
11. Send the friend request.
12. Once your friend accepts it, they will get added to your group.
13. Do this similarly for other friends and add them to your party/squad.
14. When you are all set and ready, start an online multiplayer match. Now, go ahead and play Age of Empires 4 with friends right away.

Does Age of Empires 4 have Crossplay?

Yes, there is a crossplay feature in AoE 4 so you can easily play the game with your friends who have the game on Steam and Xbox Live. If you want to play with your friends on other platforms, ensure that they have all enabled crossplay from the game settings.
