What Is Lucky Hit In Diablo 4?

Nikita HarinameBy Nikita HarinameJuly 13, 2023Updated:July 14, 20234 Mins Read
how does lucky hit work d4

If you’ve found an item or gear which has a Lucky Hit chance stat in Diablo 4, it can be confusing if you are new to the D4 franchise. There’s a lot of math and calculation involved (it’s even called Proc Coefficient) but I will try to keep it simple for those players who would simply like to know how it works at the base level.

It’s crucial for all classes to understand how it works and whether you should be investing in a build based around these type of hits because as the name sounds, it’s all about chance. You can head to your character’s stats and check under the Utility section to see what the % allotted to Lucky Hit Chance bonus is.

What is a Lucky Hit in Diablo 4?

When you find a skill or item with the Lucky Hit Chance affix, it will appear with a percentage. This means there’s an x% chance that the bonus effect will be applied. Make sure you have turned on Advanced Tooltips in Game Settings to see this.

If it’s 50% or higher, it’s going to occur more frequently and if it’s 5%, it’s going to be pretty rare. With this in mind, you can plan your build and decide whether to sell, salvage or keep the equipment you find.

For example, consider this affix – you get a skill with a Lucky Hit chance that allows one of your skills’ cooldown gets reset. This is the advantage you get for landing Lucky Hits. So if the chance shows as 50%, then you have a 50% chance of resetting one of your skills’ cooldown during your gameplay.

Diablo veteran @Rhykker explains this in a video here:

    What does Lucky Hit Do?

You get no extra damage via Lucky hit and it does nothing on its own. It simply brings along some other form of boost when it gets triggered. So if you are planning a build around this concept, make sure you have enough/high percentages for the affix. If you have found a way to give yourself a healing boost via Lucky Hit, it can be good because it can come in handy in dire situations.

Since it is Proc Coefficient, it is basically a probability to trigger an effect. It has a range between 0 to 1 and when an effect has a Proc Coefficient of 1, it means it has a 100% chance to apply the effect as mentioned, when the skill hits the enemy.

What Counts as Lucky Hit in D4?

what does lucky hit chance do diablo 4

There’s nothing you can especially do for your attack to count as a Lucky hit. What will count as a Lucky Hit will depend on the calculation of your skill/passive and equipment. Based on that, if the chance comes to 50% then every other skill use of yours may end up being Lucky hit.

This video by DonTheCrown explains the calculation in simple terms (linked below):

They take the example of Pressure Point passive for Barbarian.

    • Lucky Hit: Your core skills have up to a 30% chance to make enemies Vulnerable for 2 seconds.
    • Barbarians have 5 core skills – Whirlwind, Upheaval, Hammer of the Ancients, Rend and Double Swing.
    • Each of these has a chance that ranges from 20%, 30%, 33% to 40%.
    • So to calculate, you will have to do this:
      • Pressure Point % x Core Skill %
      • 30% from Pressure point x 20% of Upheaval = 6% chance overall on hit.

    Check it out below:

Here’s another video that dives into the formula for this affix:

How to Increase your Lucky Hit Chance in D4?

Whatever loot you get, before selling or salvaging, check its Lucky Hit affix. If you do Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, World bosses and Legion events, there’s a chance you can get better loot with higher % affixes. Focus on Weapons, Amulets, Rings, Gloves, Wands and even Shields to give you this boost.

So, that’s the basics of Lucky Hit in Diablo 4. There are more stats and status ailments that may be confusing to players such as Stun Damage, Thorns, Vulnerable, Chilled/Frozen, etc and we’ve got some guides that will explain them to you in simple terms.
