With the Growing Together expansion, a plethora of new content has been included in The Sims 4. Family Dynamics is one of the most recent game mechanics that has been added to the game. It drastically changes the in-game interaction system and the way you interact with your related Sims. But due to this newly added feature, several players are confused about how they work. Not to worry, check out our guide that explains what are Family Dynamics in The Sims 4.

What are Family Dynamics in The Sims 4 Growing Together

    sims 4 family dynamics

As the name implies, Family Dynamics is a set of options that signify the bonds and relations between related Sims in Sims 4. You can change the Family Dynamics to create a simpler or more complicated playthrough. Your related Sims interact and behave with each other according to the Family Dynamics you have selected for them.

So, here are all the Family Dynamics options you can select from:

    • Close
    • Distant
    • Supportive
    • Permissive
    • Difficult
    • Strict
    • Jokesters

From the above Dynamics, you might have gotten the idea of this new Sims system. Once you have changed the Family dynamic of any particular Sim, it will change their social interactions. For example, if two of the Sims are Permissive, the younger one tends to be more demanding rather than the older one. A parent with a Permissive family dynamic will allow their child more freedom rather than a parent with a Strict dynamic.

You can change or configure a new Family dynamic by heading to Create-a-Sim (CAS) menu. Alternatively, you can also create and develop them as you progress.

    How Do They Work

So, let’s look at every Family Dynamic and how they work in more detail:

    • Close
      • The two Sims with this family dynamic are happy and in love with one another.
      • They share an intimate relationship and share deep thoughts more frequently.
    • Distant
      • The two Sims with this set dynamic usually prefer Short Talk and interact pretty less.
    • Supportive
      • Both the Sims are comfortable and share things with each other.
      • If the Sims vary in age, the older Sim will be more thoughtful and complement the younger one more.
    • Permissive
      • As mentioned earlier, this family dynamic allows Sims to have extra space and freedom.
      • The older Sim tends to allow more freedom to the younger one.
    • Difficult
      • Adding a complex layer to the Family dynamic, the Sims with this dynamic share insulting and mean interactions with one another.
    • Strict
      • Quite the opposite of the Permissive family dynamic, the older Sim is more demanding and requires discipline from the younger one.
      • While the younger Sims respect the older due to this dynamic, they can get stressed during interactions easily.
    • Jokesters
      • The two Sims sharing this dynamic will always have fun and joke around one another.
