How to Unlock & Get Blades of Chaos in God of War Ragnarok
You can unlock Blades of Chaos after your first fight with Thor. During the fight, Kratos doesn’t carry the blades with him. So the first time you fight Thor you can only fight with him using the Leviathan Axe. Or your fists you so choose to. The fight has 3 phases, so be ready to fight him without your blades. The fight shouldn’t be very tough, especially if you are playing on Give Me Story, Give Me Grace, or Give Me Balance difficulties.
So based on how well you play the game you can expect to unlock it anytime between an hour or two.

How to Use Blades of Chaos
You can use the Blades of Chaos by pressing the R1 button to do light attacks and pressing R2 to do heavy attacks. Once unlocked, you can switch between the two weapons by pressing the directional buttons on the D-pad of your controller. Press left to use Blades of Chaos and press right to use Leviathan Axe.
While equipped you can also press L2 + R1 to do Hyperion Pull and L2 + R2 to do Blazing Surge.
