How to Tame a Mammoth
To tame a Mammoth in 99 Nights in the Forest, you require a Taming Flute. More specifically, an upgraded taming flute (the ‘Strong‘ version, which can be obtained from a Flute Tent, or the Pelt Trader. If you’re playing as the Zookeeper class, you start with an Old Taming Flute but your taming whistle levels faster, and you can tame animals faster as well.
Before you get started with taming, here are the things to consider:
- You’ll need x10 Pumpkins and x5 Cakes, as these are the Mammoth’s preferred taming foods. Bring extra food in case you fail a stage and need to retry.
- Ensure you have at least one available pet slot since the game limits the number of companions you can have at a time.
Where to Find Mammoths
Mammoths can be found mainly in the Snow Biome, though they sometimes appear in the Volcanic Biome as well. Once you spot one, approach carefully without attacking because they are neutral but will defend themselves if threatened.
Use your Taming Flute on the Mammoth to initiate the taming minigame. The game is a balance challenge where you must keep a red bar inside a green zone by pressing and releasing a button. Since Mammoths are large creatures, their taming minigame has smaller green zones and requires more accuracy. So, be patient and focused because timing and precision are of utmost importance here. Make sure to avoid attacking or provoking the Mammoth before taming.
A Mammoth has five stages of taming. After each successful round of the minigame, you must feed it 2 Pumpkins and 1 Cake before moving on to the next stage. Continue this process through all five stages until all faces in the taming interface turn green. Once complete, hearts will appear, indicating that the Mammoth has been successfully tamed.
After taming, the Mammoth becomes your companion. You can command it to follow, sit, or be released at any time. It will no longer attack you and will instead assist in combat or exploration.
