Minecraft Strays is a variant of the skeletons that spawn around the icy biomes in the Overworld. While similar to Skeletons, they have several other aspects that make them deadlier mobs. Being Hostile, they equip bows and shoot tipped arrows from a distance. But where to find the Strays? What do these mobs drop and how do they behave? Check out our guide to find out everything about the Stray mobs.
Minecraft Stray Spawn – What do you Need for Spawning Them?
You need to keep a skeleton inside the powder snow to spawn a Stray in Minecraft. When you keep a skeleton inside the Powder snow for 7 seconds, it begins shaking. Give it another 15 seconds, the skeleton becomes a stray. You don’t need to worry about its health as it will spawn with full health. Even if the skeleton you kept was not at full health, the Stray spawns with full health.
Furthermore, the items worn by the previous skeleton remain unchanged. The stray has its own spawn egg in the inventory and can spawn in many biomes. These mobs can spawn in snowy plains, frozen rivers, and icy spikes under the skies, replacing 80% of the skeletons. For Bedrock Edition, the Strays exclusively spawn in Frozen oceans, Deep frozen oceans, and Legacy frozen oceans.
What do they Drop
- The Strays in Minecraft drop 0 to 2 bones, 0 to 2 arrows, and 0 to 1 Arrow of slowness when you beat them.
- You can increase your chances of getting 0 to 5 bones and arrows with Looting III. For that, increase your Looting level for maximum Stray Drops.
- You can also increase your chances of getting the Arrow of Slowness to a maximum of 93.75% with Looting III.
- If a Stray spawns with equipment, there is an 8.5% chance of dropping. You can increase these chances to 9.5%, 10.5%, and 11.5% with Looting I, II, and III respectively.
- In the Bedrock edition, the strays can drop Wither Skeleton Skulls if a Charged Creeper kills them.
Also, the Strays drop five or more than five Experience Orbs if you skill a Stray with Armor. If you could not beat this mob, you can also use the Tamed Wolf to get those Experience Orbs.
Stray’s Behavior
- The Strays behave similarly to the Skeletons but they emit noises with an echoing effect in Minecraft.
- They also shoot tipped arrows that can cause Slowness for 30 seconds.
- The Strays don’t take any damage from Freezing in Powder Snow.
- In Bedrock Edition, the strays that spawn in Underwater use melee attacks to inflict Slowness.
- But it’s worth noting that these mobs are not immune to Slowness.
How Rare Are Strays in Minecraft
The answer to that question depends on which biomes you are searching for Strays. You can find them spawning across the cold icy biomes including the snowy plains, ice spikes, and frozen rivers. While they have replaced 80% of the Skeletons, finding them is a bit tricky. That’s because they only spawn under the sky and shoot tipped arrows.
So, the best way to find the Strays is to head to a cold and icy biome!
