If you’ve purchased the Vessel of Hatred expansion, and loaded up the game, but are not sure how to get started with the story, here’s what you need to know. Before you dive in, make sure you remember everything that happened in the base game’s campaign. If not, the cutscene at the beginning will give a quick recap. Then, follow the steps below.
How to Start Vessel of Hatred DLC content in Diablo 4
Upon starting the game after the DLC update, you will see the option to ‘change campaign state’ which has two options. You can select where you want to start the game — with the original campaign or you can skip it and start with the latest campaign.
If you’ve never played the base campaign, I highly recommend you play it to connect with characters such as Lorath, Neyrelle, Mephisto, and more. Venturing into the new region of Nahantu will be much more immersive if you know the characters, their motivations, and the lore well.
So, depending on what you want to do, confirm your selection. This is also the screen where you will see two Gameplay options — Seasonal and Hardcore.
A Seasonal character will be able to explore everything that Diablo 4 season 6 “Season of Hatred Rising” has to offer, which is available to all players, even if you don’t have Vessel of Hatred. If you choose a Hardcore character, your story will end when you die the first time. So, it’s recommended to play the DLC campaign with a non-Hardcore character first.
When your choices are made and your character is created, you’ll be brought to Kyovashad. This is where you can decide what to start with — you can either start with the campaign immediately via the priority quest, or level up a bit before getting started with the story.
Lastly, when you’ve completed the Vessel of Hatred campaign once on your account, and if you want to create a new character from a different class, you will see a new option. This one asks if you want to start with Vessel of Hatred campaign completed, and that’s what you can select to get right into the seasonal content.
