If you have read our all-animals guide, you must have been wondering about the Stardew Valley Slime Hutch. While slimes cannot be exactly considered animals, they are available for raising like others, so it’s better to put this fictional creature in that category. Like Coop animals, we hatch them from the egg, and they give a product that is used to obtain a saleable item.
It is much more work to set up, hatch, raise, and get the item from the slimes than others on the farm. Now since you have made your way here, you don’t need to worry about those. We have provided answers to everything you need to know and do with this building.
How to Unlock and Build Slime Hutch in Stardew Valley
There are no prior requirements to unlock the Slime Hutch, you have to order it from Robin using money and items. You will find Robin in the Carpenter’s Shop from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The shop is in the northeastern part of Pelican Town. You need these things to make the order:
- 10,000g
- 500 Stone
- 10 Refined Quartz
- 1 Iridium Bar
The construction will complete in two days and you will have to use the 11×6 tiles for the building. It can hold up to 20 slimes. After buying, Marlon will visit you and provide you with your first Slime Egg.
What is the Use of Slime Hutch in SDV
Once you have five Slimes in the Slime Hatch they will start producing Slime Balls. These balls cannot be sold, but you get Petrified Slime or multiple Slime items by right-clicking on them. Placing 100 slime into Slime Egg-Press will give you random color Slime Eggs. Those can be sold for thousands of gold depending on the rarity (color):
- Green Slime Egg: Sell for 1,000g
- Blue Slime Egg: Sell for 1,750g
- Red Slime Egg: Sell for 2,500g
- Purple Slime Egg: Sell for 5,000g
- Tiger Slime Egg: Sell for 8,000g
How to Get Slime Eggs for the Slime Hutch
- Place 100 Slimes in Slime Egg-Press to get a random color Slime Egg.
- You can find a few in the treasure rooms of Skull Cavern.
- Slimejack Fish Pond might produce Green Slime Eggs.
- Lionfish Fish Pond might give Tiger Slime Egg once its population reaches 9.
- Tiger Slime of Ginger Island sometimes drops the egg.
How to Hatch Slime Eggs in SDV
To hatch the eggs, you need a Slime Incubator. You unlock its recipe at level 8 of the Combat, it needs 2 Iridium Bar and 100 Slime for crafting. The incubation will take almost 3 days to complete (4000 minutes). With the Coopmaster Profession, you can speed up the process.
How Do You Make a Slime Hutch Safe?
- Slime Charmer Ring: Once they have hatched, wear this ring before entering the hutch. They will start attacking you as soon as they see you, and this ring will prevent damage.
- Trap them inside the fence: You can place the fences around them to make sure they don’t come near you. They don’t need to physically reach the water source, so they would survive.
- Put flooring where slimes are trapped: Slime Balls only spawn at crafted floors (default), so you wouldn’t have to go inside the fences.
