How to Sedate Animals in Red Dead Online

Red Dead Online has introduced a new naturalist role in their recent update. With this update, you can now kill animals from one role and study them through the naturalist role. If you are planning to pursue the naturalist role, then how to sedate animals and collect samples in Red Dead Online is the most important thing you should know about and this guide will help you with just that.

How to Sedate Animals in Red Dead Online?

Sedating animals and collecting samples will help you earn money as a naturalist and increase your XP. To pursue a naturalist role, you will have to first buy it with 25 gold bars. Then you will have to head to Strawberry where you will be introduced to Harriet and Gus, who will buy and sell items to you.
Now without any further delay let’s delve deep into how to sedate animals and collect samples in Red Dead Online.

To sedate animals, you will need a Varmint Rifle and sedative ammo. If you have been playing Red Dead Online for long, you would most probably have a Varmint Rifle. But if you don’t have one, you can buy it from in-game catalog. You can go to Harriet to buy sedative ammo. She sells a box of 20 ammo for 80 cents. Once you have the Varmint Rifle and sedative ammo, you can start your hunt to sedate animals and collect samples. Depending on the size of the animal, you may have to take multiple shots to sedate animals.

How to Collect Animal Samples in Red Dead Online?

Once you have sedated an animal, you can go close to them and a button will prompt to start collecting samples. You can sell these samples to Harriet to receive cash, XP, and progress in your Naturalist role. Samples help you study animals and complete your Animal Field Guide for the habitat where you collected those samples.
