In Minecraft, there are several Hostile Mobs and a Phantom is one of them. For those who don’t know, Hostile Mobs attack the player when they enter their line of sight. Unfortunately, the Phantom is not an ordinary Hostile Mob, but an Undead Hostile Mob. So, it is not any normal type of bird you are coming across, but a flying monster. Hence, it is important that you know every single detail about this creature. That being said, check out this guide that features everything you should know about the Phantom including its spawn conditions & how to defeat it.
What is a Phantom in Minecraft?
As mentioned above, Phantoms are flying Undead Mobs that attack the player directly after spotting them. Also, it is one of the fastest mobs in the Overworld. In Minecraft, a Phantom usually flies 15 to 25 blocks of a player horizontally in a circular motion. You will know it is a Phantom by identifying its behavior such as:
- It leaves gray-colored smoke trails behind when flying.
- They will attack the target (you) once every 10-20 seconds.
When does a Phantom Spawn?
In Minecraft, a Phantom only spawns during the night when a player does not rest for 3 days straight. In technical terms, they spawn if ‘Time Since Last Rest’ is at least 72,000 Ticks which is 1 hour in real life or 3 days in-game.
For those who don’t know, Minecraft runs at a constant 20 Ticks per second. Which makes it to 24,000 Ticks in 20 minutes and 72,000 Ticks in 60 minutes.
How to Defeat a Phantom in Minecraft?
You can damage a Phantom by causing melee damage. An important thing to note is that Healing Potions damage this creature, and Potions with damage effect heals them. They are immune to any poisonous effect as well. If you have any sword or axe with a Smite Enchantment, then you can cause heavy damage to the Phantom in Minecraft. Also, you can directly go to bed so the in-game day resets, and the Phantom gets burnt in the sunlight. Upon getting killed, a Phantom drops Phantom Membrane as loot that is further used while brewing Potions.
How to Tame Phantoms in Minecraft
Luckily, there is an add-on known as Phantom Plus that allows players to tame and ride the Phantom in Minecraft. Also, one can enter Creative Mode and use a Phantom Spawn Egg. After that, right-click on Phantom as soon as it spawns to finally be able to tame and ride the Phantom. While riding this Mob, a player can change the direction as per their will. Whereas, it is not possible to make a Phantom take off or land.
