Similar to almost every Zelda title, Dogs make a graceful return in Zelda: TOTK. While sadly, you cannot physically tame or pet any dogs in Tears of the Kingdom. If you have played BOTW, you might be looking forward to pet or tame dogs. But this doesn’t mean, you cannot be friends with Hyrule’s good boys. Like the previous Zelda entry, you can gain their trust to let them lead you to Treasure. But how do you tame and befriend the dogs of Hyrule? Check out our guide to find out how to pet, befriend, and feed dogs in TOTK.
How to Befriend & Pet Dogs in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)
You can befriend and pet dogs in mainly two ways in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You can either feed them food or take photos with them once you find them wandering around. It doesn’t matter if it’s a selfie or their portrait. Keep them company to see their tails wagging.
You can find the dogs close to almost every Stable scattered around the kingdom of Hyrule. But note that if you leave a region to farm ingredients or cook dishes, the game doesn’t track your fed treats. In that case, you will have to feed the dog (s) and repeat the process, again. Since you can find them at every stable, check out all Stable locations in TOTK.
How to Feed Dogs in Zelda: TOTK
You can feed the dogs any kind of Food Item except Fishes as they dislike it. They won’t eat the fed Fish if you drop it. For winning their trust faster, you can feed them valuable Raw Prime Meat. You can also feed them any kind of Raw Meat to see them circle around you. But if a dog doesn’t respond and wants more food, it is probably because they are more hungry.
So, here’s how you can feed the dogs in Tears of the Kingdom:
- Once you find a Dog, approach them and head to your Inventory.
- You can press the + button to open your Inventory.
- Then, press L or R button to head to the Food section.
- Select any food item and hold it in your hand.
- Drop the food (preferably Raw Meat or Bird) close to them.
- They will lead you to the Treasure once they have eaten enough treats.
- Finally, follow the dog to get a hold of the treasure.
Mostly, Dogs lead you to the treasure once you have fed them four pieces of food items. As the treasure will be buried deep within the ground, you can use the Ultrahand ability to grab it.
