When asked about his connection to GTA 6, Root gave a simple confirmation that players will see him in the game. Root is well-known for his work in shows such as King of the Hill, where he voices Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland, making his voice particularly recognizable to many fans. Most recently, he has also won the Best Supporting Comedy Actor Emmy award (2026) for his role in Widow’s Bay.

Is Stephen Root Playing Brian Heder?
While his interview did not specifically mention Brian Heder, fans have connected Root’s voice to him, since he was the character revealed earlier in the marketing cycle. Root himself acknowledged that the secret had become difficult to keep because viewers already recognized his voice from his previous work.
Rockstar has not released an official cast list at the time of writing and this makes Stephen Root the first confirmed cast member.
More cast members (especially the actors of Jason and Lucia) could gradually reveal their roles as the November 19, 2026 release gets closer.
Meanwhile, make sure to check out other details about the upcoming instalment, such as the changes to the respawn mechanics, sprint control, relationship between Lucia and Jason as well as the availability of first-person mode in the game.
