If you’ve ever witnessed the skies turn fiery red in this game, you already know something big is about to happen. That’s the Meteor Shower event, and it’s your ticket to one of 99 Nights in the Forest’s most valuable resources: the Meteor Shard. But what exactly does it do, and why should you risk your life against those fiery crabs to get it? Here’s what you need to know.
How to Get Meteor Shards in 99 Nights in the Forest
Once the meteor storm hits, chunks of rock crash into the map and leave behind glowing craters. They’re not marked for you, so you’ll need to look around, but they can be spotted easily. Usually, you’ll see smoke, heated terrain, or a lava-like glow. The problem is that every crater is guarded by Meteor Crabs, hostile creatures that make things difficult for you. Take them out first, or they’ll drain your health while you’re swinging your axe.
After the fight, you’ll notice some crystals in the crater. That’s your target. Unlike chopping down a tree, it takes a lot more swings to break apart, so bring a decent axe (a Chainsaw makes things much quicker, but even the Old Axe works if you’ve got patience). When the rock finally shatters, Meteor Shards scatter out along with rarer drops like Gold Shards or even Raw Obsidiron Ore if you’re lucky.
What do Meteor Shards do?
Meteor Shards are useful for the crafting system. Once the Workshop mutates into its lava-fueled version, you’ll find new recipes available at the Meteor Anvil. That’s where Meteor Shards come into play:
Here are a couple of crafts you’ll want to save for:
- Axe Trim Kit: x8 Meteor Shards and x3 Gold Shards
- Armour Trim Kit: x8 Meteor Shards and x5 Gold Shards
- Obsidiron Boots: x10 Meteor Shards and x1 Obsidiron Ingot
- Obsidiron Chest Blueprint: x10 Meteor Shard, x15 Gold Shards, x3 Obsidiron Ingot
Because these recipes demand multiple shards at a time, a single crater won’t cut it. Make sure to hit several meteor sites before you’ve got enough to craft these items.
Things to prepare before you go:
- Stock up on healing: Between Meteor Crabs and the extra swings needed to mine the rock, you’ll take some hits.
- Farm multiple showers: You’ll always need more shards than you think, especially if you’re after chests.
- Move fast after meteors fall: Craters don’t wait forever, and sometimes other dangers lurk nearby.
The Meteor Shard is your stepping stone to some of the best gear in 99 Nights in the Forest, so if that’s your goal, it’s definitely worth grinding for.
