To put it simply, players will have to keep a check on the Merchant’s Attitude with each merchant to get a fair or even a profitable deal in Baldur’s Gate 3. The mechanic will impact the prices at which the merchant sells or buys the item with your character in the game. If the Merchant Attitude of a specific merchant is lower towards your selected character, the price at which he sells items would be relatively high. Similarly, if you have a good trader affinity and have the attitude balanced or full then the merchant will let you have a profitable deal in BG3.

It is worth keeping in mind that Charisma too affects the price at which an item is available. And that both charisma and Merchant Attitude work in linear progression for players. If you have an abundance of both of them on your character then they can buy and sell items with an increased profit in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Increase Merchant Attitude in BG3

Players can increase the Merchant Attitude to 100% by bartering the merchants 600 Gold or items worth the value in Baldur’s Gate 3. This means every 6 Gold, you will earn a positive attitude point for a merchant. Players can keep track of their attitude while interacting with the NPC and by taking a look at the bar underneath their character in the trade and barter menu. With each point gained, players will be able to have a 0.2% discount on their purchase of different items while also increasing the price of the items they sell to the merchant.

As you will start with 0 Merchant Attitude with each, we recommend you increase it with each merchant gradually as the game progresses. Increasing it with only one merchant won’t be useful in your campaign. Positive or negative charisma modifiers will impact the price accordingly in BG3.
