What Does NGF Mean in Grow a Garden? Explained

While playing Grow a Garden, you might have seen “NGF” in the global chat typed by other players, or something might say that to you as well. This term is related to trading and if you’re planning on exchanging pets or fruits in the game, here’s what you need to know.

What does NGF Mean in Grow a Garden?

NGF meaning grow garden

NGF means Not Going First. Since Grow a Garden does not have a proper trading system where both players submit something, and only then the trade goes through, there’s a high chance of getting scammed. Currently, this system works via gifting only.

For instance, if you gift someone a Candy Blossom expecting another crop, like the Bone Blossom in return, the other player might just take your crop and leave the game immediately. This leaves you without anything: you lose a valuable crop and you. To potentially prevent this, players usually type “NGF” in Grow a Garden because they don’t want to be the first player to send their item. You can type something like “Trading a raccoon ngf” and if someone wants to trade, they can start the conversation from there.

If you decide to go first, there’s still a chance of getting scammed, and there’s no way to protect yourself from it. It’s best to only potentially trade items that you’re okay with losing, just in case. Plus, there’s also a chance that they might give back something of much lower value than the crop/pet you gave them. Hopefully, the developers will implement a built-in trading system soon.

For some players, this could also mean “not gifting fruit,” so if someone writes it to you, you can clarify in the chat about their specific intention.

That’s all for this one! For more tips and tricks, make sure to check out our Grow a Garden guides on Gamer Tweak.
