The Galactic Readiness is basically a score of sorts. Combine it with the Total Military Strength and you get something called the Effective Military Strength. A higher EMS rating will dictate almost everything in the game, including the outcome of Earth. Maybe Shepard should have been in the Avengers against Thanos. How to improve your Galactic Readiness in Mass Effect 3
To increase your Galactic Readiness you will have to collect more War Assets. You can get more War Assets you will need to scan every single star system. Doing so will help you discover all hidden War Assets on the plants. Another method is to complete the side missions. Creating alliances with various groups will help you gain more war assets. You should also try going down the Paragon path and saving as many lives as you possibly can. This will help you get a good amount of War Assets.
Your choices you make as Commander Shepard will affect the amount of War Assets you get. There might be instances where you need to sacrifice something. In this case, it is always good to go with the larger picture and save a larger amount of lives, just like the decision about Mordin.
