During the Hammer Falls questline, players will get to know about the crimes that Ron Hope committed and will be faced with the decision of either killing or sparing him in Starfield. After interacting with Paxton Hull in the First to Fight, First to Die questline, he will let you know that the founder of Hopetech is behind the First Cavalry. He purposely poisoned the crops of the farmers around and also hired the cavalry to attack them. Now with all the proof, you will have to confront one of the most esteemed men in the Freestar Collective system.
However, with everything considered, it can be confusing as you might not want to jeopardize your chance of becoming a Freestar Ranger or have consequences going further. Since you might also be eyeing the Star Eagle starship, here is a guide explaining if you should spare or kill Ron Hope.
Should you Spare or Kill Ron Hope in Starfield?
Before deciding whether to spare or kill Ron Hope, it is worth mentioning that there are no direct consequences that may affect your campaign in Starfield. Deciding to kill the founder of Hopetech or even spare him won’t change anything in the game. You will be rewarded the same regardless of what you choose at the end of the quest. If you kill Ron Hope then you can let Marshal Daniel Blake know about it. In case you spare him instead, you will have to lie about the fact and deal with him accordingly. Regardless of it, you will still get that Freestar Rangers badge and the Star Eagle Starship in the game.
Sparing Ron Hope
With that being said, we found sparing Ron Hope instead of killing him in Starfield to be more rewarding. The Hopetech founder will offer you around 20,000 credits just to spare him. If you have negotiation skills at your disposal you can get up to 50,000 credits in the game. We would recommend sparing him to be an effective option if you are looking to earn credits. The only downside to showing mercy to the man guilty of crimes is that your companions would not like that. This may affect your affinity with them. But for the most of it, everything should be just fine. It will be the most rewarding option as you will get more than enough credits plus the star eagle.
It is worth mentioning that you can spare Ron Hope without accepting any rewards in Starfield. As he will let you know about Hopetech shutting down, the employees might be out of work the next time you see them. Sparing him can be the right decision if you want to genuinely help out the people working.
Killing Ron Hope
However, if you are funding on a more moral compass, you can decide to kill him instead of sparing his life in Starfield. At this point, you will be able to take him down easily. Although there are no additional rewards to the option in the game. After killing him you can let the Marshal know about his fate and plans. This will help you get the same rewards.
