One of the most frustrating things that can happen during an Overwatch 2 comp match is when you get kicked out of the game – even more so, if that happens multiple times. If you are facing disconnection problems, the issue may be at your end or it could be OW2 servers too.
Keep Getting Kicked Out of Comp Matches in Overwatch 2
There are multiple error messages you may encounter – “Disconnected because your profile was signed out” or even “login error”, “failed to connect to game server” etc. Once that happens, you may see a certain number of players in the queue ahead of you.
How to Fix Disconnection Issues from User-End
- Check if your internet connection is the problem. Ensure that it is stable before joining a comp match. Otherwise, don’t take the risk because there are repercussions on your rank for leaving the match, even if it’s due to poor connectivity.
- Use an ethernet cable if possible. Reset your network devices to ensure that your router isn’t overloaded with data.
- Close any other online applications that you may be using and ensure that Overwatch 2 gets the bandwidth.
- Flush your DNS to resolve any network conflicts.
- Check if a VPN is working in the background – if yes, turn it off.
- Disable any proxies that could interfere with the game.
- Check if there are any viruses or malware on your computer.
Check if Overwatch 2’s Servers are having Problems
If other players in your match are also getting kicked one by one and eventually you get removed as well – it’s not you, it’s OW2’s servers. This has happened multiple times before and it could be due to a temporary server outage or overload. During such a scenario, there’s nothing you can do to fix it. When it happened to me, all players got kicked and the match was “abandoned” – it did not register as a loss.
But when I was the only player who was kicked out of the game/match in Overwatch 2, I saw the option to rejoin the match on the main screen. Make sure to attempt to rejoin as soon as possible and if things work out in your favor, your team might just win the match. But if the tables have turned until your return, your win or loss depends on the team’s morale at that point, decisions to switch heroes, and overall skills.
That’s everything you should know if you keep getting disconnected from Overwatch 2 servers during unranked, arcade or competitive matches. For more related to OW2’s issues, explore our articles on Gamer Tweak.
