While having the best weapons and items is crucial in Dead Rails, upgrading your train for offensive and defensive purposes will help you get to the 80,000m mark. Here’s what you can do to protect yourself and your teammates while you’re on the train.
How to Build a Train with Strong Defense in Dead Rails
To make all of this possible, you will need in-game money so make sure to sell the initial gold for cash and then make more money by getting the bodies of Outlaws to the Sheriff’s office. Also, loot as many buildings as you can, so that you have enough currency to purchase items along the way.
Here are some ways to give your train some defensive measures during your journey.
Barbed Wire: You can weld this item on the train to deter enemies from climbing in and give you some time to plan your next move if they are starting to swarm. Plus, if vampires try to get in, they will take damage.
You can buy it from the General Store and Trading Posts for $20. If you’re lucky, you may find it while looting. However, remember that it can break after multiple uses.
Sheet Metal: Aside from Barbed Wire, you can also purchase Sheet Metal which costs $20. It is made of bulletproof material, protecting you against Outlaws and other enemies with guns, so make sure to barricade your train with it.
Newspaper: There will be a few newspapers in the spawn area—collect them and weld them on your train in a way that enemies can’t climb in too easily. You can also use it to protect the cabin if you’re playing solo.
Place it in such a way that you have to strafe through the gaps to enter the cabin, but enemies won’t be able to do the same. This can come in handy until you have enough money to buy the above barricades. However, be alert because it’s not made of metal and will break pretty quickly after taking damage.
Things to keep in mind:
While keeping some sheets as cover for the back of the train is important, don’t forget to cover the windows to protect yourself from getting shot by Outlaws. Test the location beforehand when you’re in a town—ensure that movement within the train is possible and you’re able to get out and in easily as well.
Nighttime is when things are most dangerous in the world of Dead Rails, so make sure someone from your team has purchased the Torch, an important source of light. To make this journey easier, purchase a Turret gun and its ammo and weld it to your train so that you have additional help against incoming enemies.
Lastly, make sure to not run out of fuel—multiple Coal, bodies of Zombies, and other items can be used as fuel in dire situations as well. Manage these carefully, be prepared and you will be able to reach the 80KM point. After that, here’s what you need to do to lower the bridge.
