Shrubs look absolutely beautiful and add a pop of color to the greenery on your island. Hedges, on the other hand, are fences covered in leaves which will add a distinct and unique touch to different areas. How to Get Shrubs
To get some pretty shrubs for decorating your island, you need to meet Leif, the cute Sloth. Leif runs a gardening shop where he sells rare flower seeds and shrubs! He’s a visiting vendor and you will find him on your island. He will sell white azalea, yellow tea olive and pink hydrangea as well as a few other shrubs.
Talk to Leif and buy your favorite shrubs from his shop. If you have some weeds, you can even sell it to him. He will pay a good price for those!
Now, check your Nook Miles+ tasks and you will notice that during the Nature Day event, you can plant 3 shrub starts to get a 5x multiplier, that is, a thousand Nook Miles! So, go ahead and plant three (or more) shrub starts anywhere you want on the island. These shrubs can grow near cliffs and along the rivers as well! Some shrubs will bloom if they are in season and some will bloom later. This is pretty much how you can unlock shrubs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Unlock Hedges
After you have done your shrub planting, visit Tom Nook in Resident Services. He will talk to you about eco-friendly activities and he’ll promise to give you a gift if you participate in them. Since you have already started participating in nature-related activities, he will offer you a hedge DIY recipe! Note that you can complete any limited-time Nature Day activity to be able to get the hedge DIY recipe. With this recipe, you can now craft your very own hedges.
How to Craft a Hedge in ACNH
You will need the following:
- 10 clumps of weeds
- 5 tree branches
- 2 stones
Once you have crafted a hedge, you will have something that looks like a little fence. Just put it into the ground to build a hedge. Now, repeat this procedure to create your very own hedge design.
