For players looking to parkour around the objects and obstacles in their surroundings, Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 brings back the hurdle mechanic. The movement mechanic was first introduced back in chapter 4 where it was quickly disabled by Epic Games due to some arising issues. However, hurdling is once again introduced back with the latest chapter and players will be able to use it quite freely in the game.
The latest chapter also includes other physics and movement updates that you will come across as you go through the different modes. And if you are not familiar with all of them it can be difficult to maneuver around the areas of the map and win the Fortnite battle royale.
Since hurdling is back, some might find using it to get around obstacles and fences a bit daunting at the start. So if you are looking to move around freely, here is a guide with everything you need to know about the movement mechanic.
How to Hurdle in Fortnite
To hurdle in Fortnite, players will have to be near an object, fence, or any other obstacle in the game. Once you approach the obstacle while sprinting, you will get the prompt to hurdle on your screen. However, since the mechanic is mapped to your jump button, you can simply press the key while sprinting and approaching the object in the game.
We would recommend you turn on the Auto Sprint from the settings to use Hurdle more efficiently. This will keep the momentum going even after hurdling over the fence or any other object.
- For PC players, you will have to press the Space key to jump and hurdle around the objects in Fortnite.
- Players with PlayStation and Xbox will have to press the X button and A button respectively on their controllers.
You can change the keybind according to you through the settings.
We would suggest getting used to the mechanic first by trying it out in different modes. This will help you master hurdling which will certainly help you parkour around obstacles and maneuver through the areas quite efficiently.
One of the Chapter 5 Season 1 Kickstart quests requires players to hurdle at different named locations in Fortnite. To complete this, players will simply have to use the hurdle mechanic at three different locations on the map.
Since the quest doesn’t mention any specific obstacles or objects, you can use the movement around anything to complete it in the game.
