How to Get Demonite in The Forge
To obtain Demonite, you need to unlock access to World 2: Forgotten Kingdom which can be done by leveling up to 10 and completing Sensei Moro’s quests in Stonewake’s Cross. You will then get a Portal that can be used to teleport to World 2 which has better ores but also tougher enemies.
More specifically, you need to mine Volcanic rocks and at a 1/3666 chance, you may get Demonite in The Forge. Make sure to use luck boosts such as potions or totems to increase your chances.
It is a red crystal that can be mined with a minimum of Lightite Pickaxe because you need at least 100 Mining power. But anything higher than that will work better. While it can be sold for 82.5 Gold, it’s best used for forging due to its multiplier and trait.

Head to the Ruined Cave in Forgotten Kingdom and turn toward the Ashen Passage. Find the Basalt Veins and break them to gain access to the Volcanic region. This is where you will find higher-tier enemies (such as the Elite Rogue Skeleton) that you can farm for essence, and you can find Volcanic Rocks that can give you Demonite.
As you can see, Demonite is a major checkpoint resource in The Forge. Once you unlock it, your progression speed increases dramatically.
