If you’re currently trying to complete the Ashfall bestiary in Fisch, you will require the Coal bait to catch the Ashcloud Archerfish. However, this is a special type of bait that’s hard to come by but it helps to catch rare and powerful fish aside from the event as well. Here’s how you can obtain multiple.
How to Get Coal Bait in Fisch
The first thing you need is a Volcanic Geode. Coal Bait can be found in Volcanic Geodes, which can be obtained by fishing at the Roslit Volcano with the Magnet bait or by buying them from the Traveling Merchant for 600C$ each.
Once you have purchased multiple Volcanic Geodes, you can open them to potentially receive Coal Bait and other rewards.
Haven’t been to the Roslit Volcano yet? No worries! It is located on the side of Roslit Bay. You can find it by taking a boat from the Shipwright and sailing east. From Roslit Bay, make your way to the cave entrance into the mountain (near the campfire) and you should be ready to fish.
Make sure you have the Magma rod for this purpose or you can use a fishing rod with the Invincible mutation. You can also use Coal to fish at Forsaken Shores to get Cursed Eel, at The Depths from the Ancient Eel aside from the Limited Ashcloud Archerfish.
The Traveling Merchant can be found in various locations throughout the game. Check the docks at Moosewood, Roslit Bay, Sunstone Island, Desolate Deep, and Forsaken Shores—you will be notified whenever he appears at a new location.
Here are some things you can try while trying to get the Coal bait:
- Aside from Magnet, you can use high-luck baits like Weird Algae to increase your chances of getting Coal Bait.
- Apply boosters such as Server Luck to further increase your chances.
- If you don’t have Robux, you can purchase Merlin VI for 5,000 in-game cash, which grants a 30% luck boost for 10 minutes.
Coal Bait is a rare item, so it may take some time to obtain. With patience, you’ll be able to catch it by fishing or you can purchase Volcanic Geodes until you get it.
