In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there is a special type of tree and that is the bamboo. The bamboo items that you can get in ACNH are bamboo shoots, young spring bamboo and bamboo. It’s pretty rare and also not native to your island, so you have to do some work to get them. Here’s how to do it!
Animal Crossing New Horizons Bamboo Guide
To get some bamboo for yourself, you need to go on a Mystery Island Tour. You can begin this tour once you buy a Nook Miles ticket which will cost you 2,000 Nook Miles. In exchange for this ticket, Orville the Dodo will send you on a deserted island tour. But it’s not guaranteed that you will surely end up on Bamboo Island. That’s because the island you get is chosen by the game randomly. So,you have to be lucky! Remember to keep some space in your inventory for bamboo if you do end up on Bamboo island.
Where to Get Bamboo in ACNH
There is another way to get bamboo and that is to buy a lot of turnips from Daisy Mae who might send you 3 bamboo shoots in the mail after your purchase. She visits your island every Sunday so keep an eye out for her.
How to Grow Bamboo in ACNH
Once you find a Bamboo island, you need to dig with your shovel at some specific locations which can give you bamboo shoots. You can then plant this bamboo shoot on your own island and create your bamboo tree. Your tree will grow completely after a few days and there will be a bamboo shoot buried in the ground nearby. Dig it up and you will have another bamboo shoot! Keep in mind that you won’t be able to grow new bamboo trees if you bury young spring bamboo and bamboo pieces.
Another good way is to take out an entire bamboo plant from the Bamboo island and bring it to your island. Eat whatever fruit you have to get Fruit Energy and get digging. You could also pick one from a friend’s island and plant it on your own island.
While you are preparing to hit the Bamboo trees to get resources, remember to hit them with a Flimsy Axe or a Stone Axe which will not cut down the valuable tree.
Note that you will get bamboo shoots and bamboo any time of the year but young spring bamboo is seasonal. It will be dropped from chopping bamboo during the in-game spring season. In the Northern hemisphere, spring is in March, April and May. In the Southern hemisphere, it’s in September, October and November.

- A lot of DIY recipes include bamboo items to craft objects like Bamboo Lamp, Bamboo Bench, Bamboo Sphere, Bamboo-Glove wall, Bamboo drums and many more.
- You can sell bamboo shoots for 250 Bells, young spring bamboo for 200 Bells and bamboo for 80 bells.
- You can eat bamboo too! But they are quite valuable so eat them only if you have an abundance of them.
