To survive in Valheim you will have to need strong buildings. One that can save you from rain, animals, and enemies. Building a strong structure is a challenging task in the game. No matter how much raw material you have, there is a way to construct a building. Without a strong foundation, it will fall and this will put you back on grinding for woods and stones. I will help you with some of the best ways to build a strong structure in Valheim.
Ways to Build Strong Foundation for Buildings
You will be using two primary resources for construction in Valhiem. Stone and Wood, you will craft out beams, walls, floorings, etc from the raw materials gathered during exploration. Focus on the colors while placing an object. You will see the following six primary colors during the construction. Each color is a kind of code that shows you the status of the object. For example, if it has 100% support or will it break down easily.
- Blue: Foundation. Objects which are attached to the ground and have max support.
- Green: Good for Platforms.
- Yellow: Little Weaker then Green, can be used for roofs.
- Orange: Weaker then yellow.
- Red: Easily get damage.
- Dark red: Breaks instantly.
If you are constructing a roof or a wall keep an eye on the color code. Any piece with dark red will break immediately. Blue is the one good for foundation and laying any piece above that with beam support makes upper floors or roof stronger.
Use wood for walls and 2×1 bricks for ground flooring. Do not place them above the wooden foundation, the structure will be weak and can degrade fast. As you start building upper floors the structure will start losing its stability. This is where beams play a big role in keeping things in place. Focus on attaching the beam to the foundation structure, to give max strength to the upper floors.
If you are building something above the ground, use wood beams to support them. Do not lay the piece flying in the air attached to a wall, it will not last long. Try to place the pieces only when you see green or blue color. Avoid the other ones, you can also go with yellow in case you need something.
Stone is the best foundation
If you are having enough stone bricks then you can use them as wall columns. Each wood piece attached to the stone will act as a foundation piece. This means you don’t have to spend much on beams to make things stable. Stone offers the best stability because you will see each wood piece attached to the stone wall will be in blue color. No matter if they are attached to a higher piece above the ground.
Stone is the best for building a strong foundation in Valheim. Stone pillars are also the best foundation, it will put you on a lot of grinding to grab enough pieces for a base. There are other more objects you can craft to make your base secure. But focus a lot on building a strong foundation, other things can be repaired easily.
