How to Upgrade your Tent to a House

In the beginning, your humble abode will be quite humble – it will be a tent. Tom Nook will charge you 5,000 Nook Miles for this. It’s a loan so your first goal will be to pay that off. There is no time limit or any interest for this, so no worries there!

When you complete different Nook Miles tasks like fishing, selling something etc, you will be able to earn enough Nook Miles to pay off your first loan. You can do this easily by completing the challenges given in the Nook Miles+ program. Take a look at our handy guide to know how to earn Nook Miles in ACNH.

Once you have paid off your debt, you’ll want to upgrade your tent to a house to ensure a more secure living. After all, you can’t spend your life in a little tent, can you? So, to do this, simply meet Tom Nook and he will offer this house upgrade to you. Again, for this you will need a loan from Tom Nook.

In New Horizons, you have to pay your house upgrade loans with Bells. Only the initial loan for the tent will be paid by Miles, the rest will be Bells.

When you accept this house upgrade offer, Tom will get the house ready for you the next day. This house will have one room and 80 storage slots. The house upgrade from a tent to a one-room house will cost you 98,000 Bells.

How do you expand your house in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Once you settle into your new home and add the items you want, you might feel the need for more space. Want to expand your house? You got it! When you pay off your previous home loan, you can visit Tom Nook again and ask to expand your house. You will also get some house customization options for every house upgrade.

This house will be bigger than your previous one, along with 40 additional storage slots.
It will cost you 198,000 Bells.

Adding a Room to the Back

This house upgrade will add an extra room at the back plus 120 more storage slots. This will cost you 348,000 Bells.

Adding a Room to the Left

You’re on a roll! To upgrade your house even further and add a left room to it, you can take a loan of 548,000 Bells from Tom Nook. This will give you 120 more storage slots.

Adding a Room to the Right

Similar to previous house upgrades, this one gives you 40 additional slots and will add a room to the right of your home. This will cost you 758,000 Bells.

Second Floor House Upgrade

Once you feel that you are ready for a second floor, take a loan of 1,248,000 Bells and get the expansion. You will get 400 storage slots with this, so that’s great!

There’s also a Basement!

Animal Crossing New Horizons gives you the option to create a basement in your house. You will be charged a whopping 2,498,000 Bells for this upgrade. Along with a basement, you will get 800 storage slots.

These were all the home upgrades that you can do as of now in New Horizons. Tom Nook will offer you one exterior renovation a day for free after your final house upgrade. Getting to this level of house upgrades will cost you millions of bells, so all you need to do is prioritize what you really want to do in this game.
