Before getting the Axe in Animal Crossing New Horizons (ACNH) the player will have to craft a Flimsy Ax. That can be done by donating Tom Nook some bugs and fish. You’ll need to keep donating until he rewards you with the DIY Flimsy Axe recipe (It might take 2 to 4 donations). As soon as he does, simply open your phone and go to DIY Recipes app. And go through the items you are going to need to make a Flimsy Axe i.e., 5x Tree Branches and 1x Stone. However, as a downside, the Ax won’t last for long and will break down after 40 hits. In this case, you will need to upgrade it by purchasing Pretty Good Tools Recipes for 3,000 Nook Miles from the Automatic Bell Dispenser machine (ABD). This machine is located on the right side of Tom Nook’s tent.

Once you buy the pretty good tools recipes it’ll allow you to craft various tools, which include Stone Axe and a Standard Axe. The Stone Axe can be crafted using 1x Flimsy Ax and 3x Wood, which has a durability of 100 hits. Moreover, the Standard Axe can be crafted using 1x Flimsy Ax, 1x Iron Nugget, and 3x Wood. This Axe has the capability of chopping down trees in a few hits and comes with 100 hits of durability.
