BG3: How To Fix ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ Error

Published Date :

While the BG3 patch has been good with most of the things, there is no error that has surfaced as a result that is bugging the sneak mechanic. If you are facing the ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ error in Baldur’s Gate 3, you might need to load a previously saved file or change the armor on Astarion. Although this error has been there for quite some time, the patch made it visible to more players and via this Astarion (dis?)advantage forum, we can show you exactly what’s going on. In this guide, we will also provide you a couple of troubleshooting tips that might help you get past this error.

While the stealth mechanic is quite useful, the error has always been a persistent one. Even if you have one source of disadvantage, you won’t be able to pull of the sneak attack. With Astarion, the biggest source of disadvantage is his default armor. Earlier, the game did not really display anything significant but now, players can see the ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ error turn up while playing Baldur’s Gate 3. Although Larian have not officially addressed this or provided a permanent fix, there are a couple of workaround that we found.

Firstly, players can change the default armor on Astarion and get rid of the ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ error in BG3. However, there is one notable problem and that is, players may not have another armor for Astarion. This also does not solve the error if it appears with some other companion. So the best alternative workaround is that players should load a previously saved file (or autosaved) and use another character for the sneak attack in BG3. Or you can strategize a different move. Basically, anything that won’t put you in the same situation with the same companion. That should help you fix the Baldur’s Gate 3 ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ error.

Additionally, we also recommend you contact BG3 Support if the error is hindering your game constantly. If Larian Studios does get numerous complaints on this matter, they might provide a permanent fix to the error.

That’s all we have on the ‘Can’t Have Disadvantage Against Target’ error in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you found this guide useful, do check out our other Baldur’s Gate 3 on our dedicated section here at Gamer Tweak.
