Raft is a survival-based open-world video game that revolves around a wooden raft in the middle of an ocean. Being stranded in an ocean, fishing makes the most sense, right? You can either consume them or sell them at the trading posts. But fishing requires two key resources. They are Fishing bait and fishing rods. Some players are confused about getting them both in the game. So, here’s our guide on how to get Fishing bait and make fishing rods in Raft.
How to Get Fishing Bait in Raft
You can get the fishing baits at any of the trading posts scattered around the open world. These baits are as follows:
- Simple Bait
- Advanced Bait
- Expert Bait
There are three tiers to these above baits, and each can be purchased for one Trash Cube. As simple as it sounds, there’s a slight twist.
While the first tier is unlocked and can be purchased at every trading post, the other two need to be unlocked. You can unlock the other two tiers by increasing your reputation.

To unlock the Tier 3, Expert Bait, we suggest using the Advanced fishing bait to catch fish faster.
In addition to these baits, there is also a Shark bait that can be crafted. You can craft this bait pretty early in the game.
How to Make a Shark Bait
Mentioned below are the materials needed to craft a Shark bait:
- 2 Rope
- 2 Herring
- 2-Pomfrets
Shark baits are useful in scaring off the Sharks that can damage you.
Now, that we have baits, you also need a fishing rod to fish. These fishing rods are craftable but require a crafting recipe.
So, here are the two available fishing rods and how to get them.
How to Make Fishing Rods
Mentioned below are the two fishing rods and how to craft them:
Wooden Fishing Rod
You can get its recipe by placing one wooden plank and a rope at the Research table. Once you have it all set, here are the following items to craft it:
- 8 Wooden Plank
- 8 Rope
Place the above materials on a Research table to craft one.
Metal Fishing Rod
For its crafting recipe, place one rope, bolt, and scrap on a research table. Then, place the following items to craft a Metal fishing rod:
- 8 Rope
- 1 Bolt
- 3 Scraps
