Unlike most other abilities like the Phantom Rush Combo, this ability does not require unlocking. Drop Dash is readily available in the game but it does not specify how to use it. You can use the drop dash in Sonic Frontiers by performing a double jump. This is necessary to activate the drop dash. After that, just hold the jump button while Sonic is in the air to perform a drop dash. The default buttons for the jump are Spacebar on PC, A on Xbox, and X on Playstation.
This is a great move to cause some damage to the enemies or break some destructible items in your path. This move is also useful to get out of tricky situations. For an instance, if you are damaged by an enemy, you can use this move to slip out of the way. Then you can use the Light Speed Dash to instantly recollect all the rings you lost.
