How to Disable Instant Portraits in FFXIV

Instant Portraits enabled in Duties

This feature was introduced as a beta in patch 6.2 as a part of the Adventurer Plates. But in patch 6.3, it is enabled by default in the following duties:

  • Dungeons
  • Guildhests
  • Trials
  • Raid Dungeons
  • Alliance Raid Dungeons
  • Deep Dungeons
  • Variant & Criterion Dungeons

So whenever you start these quests, you will see the portraits of the members of the party. To disable the Instant Portraits in FFXIV, head over to the UI Settings and uncheck the box under the Instant Portraits tab. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open the System Menu in the Lower-Right corner of the Screen
  • Click on Character Configuration
  • Then, click on UI Settings
  • Scroll down till you find the Instant Portraits tab
  • Uncheck the boxes under it

Another thing you can do there is let the portraits show in the Player Commendation Window. This will make it easier to recognize and commend a player who had a positive impact on your party.

If you choose to let it stay enabled, you can have some fun with it. FFXIV has a plethora of cosmetics and you can use the various editing options to make your portrait memorable. However, some players faced some problems with this feature. If you too are one of those then you can check our guide here to fix it.
